Upcoming SCOARE Workshops

What is the SCOARE workshop?

In this NIH-funded online research mentor training workshop “Scientific Communication Advances Research Excellence” (SCOARE), developed by Drs. Carrie Cameron and Shine Chang of The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, mentors will learn best practices and strategies for helping mentees develop their scientific speaking and writing skills, which have been shown to build mentees’ commitment to research careers. Virtual workshops are delivered in 2 online 3-hour sessions and are limited to 20 attendees; participants must attend both sessions.

 What are the expected outcomes?

The workshop will focus on practical mentoring strategies that can be used in mentoring immediately that are effective, efficient, and accessible to mentors. Former attendees say:

“This should be a mandatory requirement for new faculty who participate in mentoring.”

“My students have demonstrated a great level of improvement in their writing skillsets.”

The mentees of former attendees say, six months after the workshop:

“Our communication has improved drastically over the last few months.”

“Our meetings are much more productive, and our mentor/mentee relationship has grown.”

Upcoming workshops:

  • Monday, May 6 and* Wednesday, May 8, 2024; 10:00AM – 1:00PM Central (11AM-2PM Eastern / 9AM-12PM Mountain / 8AM-11AM Pacific)

*The complete workshop consists of 2 separate sessions (same time both days).
